Let’s see how *smart *my readers are…

3 men go into a motel. The desk clerk said the room was $30, so each man paid $10 and went to the room. A while later, the desk clerk realized the room was only $25, so he sent the bellboy to the 3 guys’ room with $5. On the way, the bellboy couldn’t figure out how to split $5 evenly between 3 men so he gave each man $1 and kept the other $2 for himself. This meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room, which made a total of $27. Add to that the $2 the bellboy kept and the total is $29. Where is the other dollar?

Got it from here

I have to email the webmaster to get the answer. How strange right? He rather spend time replying emails than just post the answer at the website.

Ok, I better not bitch about him. After he don’t want give me the answer 😛

So..cmon! Give it a try, just post what you think is the answer.

So far..Henry Chuah gave me the most reasonable answer. Not saying the rest didn’t, the rest were reasonable but Henry’s one was the MOST reasonable.

Haha, talk so much but in the end, I don’t wanna show Henry’s answer :P….yet

Post your arguments aight?

Me : three men went into the motel and booked a room.

Jie Yao : what? say again…

coz the $2 tips is included in the $27 as the room is only $25 therefore each person only pay $8.33 for the room another $0.67 for the tips so another $3 will be the refund of the 3 person =]]

This is due to an error in the calculation of the tips. Let’s 1st look at the initial amount each person paid..

(25/3) + (2/3) + (1) = 10

25 is the cost of the room

2 is the tip of the bellboy

1 is the refund

Now this is the actual cost of the room + tip..

(25/3) + (2/3) = 9

Since there were 3 guys, the total room cost with tip included would be 27. This figure is justified with the addition of 3 given by refund to give you the initial value of 30.

Now this is where it all goes wrong…

“This meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room, which made a total of $27. Add to that the $2 the bellboy kept and the total is $29.”

In short, 9 dollars is room with tip included.

The room costs $25. From the $5, $3 was given back, leaving $2 with the bellboy. The $2 should be subtracted from the $27 instead of added. Yes, each one of them paid $9, it is because they paid for the $25 room + $2 to the bellboy. They would only need to pay $8.33 if they were only paying for the room, not $9.

Well, I wish I could reply to all the comments personally but there’s nothing much I can say except “My readers are smart ^^”

All your answers are actually the same, except they differ in explanations.

So *clapclap* I will be back to tease your brains.

I know! The extra one dollar was the extra servicing fee for the bellboy to perform special sex service on the 3 guys.
